It is not clear if TrueCrypt development will continue after the audit finishes, and while it is likely that the devs have posted the message that the software is insecure on the official project website, it has not been confirmed until now. However, since the original Truecrypt project and the DiskCryptor alternative have not been updated since 2014, VeraCrypt is the freeware/source-available tool currently recommended by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) for Windows platform encryption. It’s a fork of TrueCrypt, which melted down and ceased development back in 2014, but since then it’s been updated, improved its own security, and gotten a lot faster. May 30, 2014 · TrueCrypt was free and worked with all flavors of Windows, though. If you're looking for an encryption tool that can match those prerequisites, check out DiskCryptor .
